PERCIVAL VEGA GULL
PERCIVAL VEGA GULL - The
Percival Gull was a four-seat development of the Percival
Gull, first flown November 1935 and powered usually by 200 hp DH Gipsy Six
Srs I or 205 hp Gipsy Six Srs II. Pre-war production included 14 to
Specification 20/38 for RAF communications use, of which 11 initially to No 24
Sqn, two to FAA and one to British Air Attache in Lisbon; earlier, one other
civil-standard Percival Vega Gull acquired by Air Ministry for use by Air
Attache in Buenos Aires. Another (civil-registered) Percival Vega Gull used by
Air Attache in Berlin abandoned there at outbreak of war; subsequent use in
Germany unconfirmed. Two Percival Vega Gulls retained civil registration for
war-time use in Britain, and 21 others impressed 1939-40 for RAF and FAA. Two
more impressed for RAF use in India. Two Percival Vega Gulls impressed for RAAF
served in Australia with No 1 Communications Unit throughout the war and a
single example impressed for the RNZAF similarly survived.
