HONNINGSTAD
Established 1936, Honningstad designed and built the Norge
Model A light transport aircraft in 1938. Designed a
twin-engined, 12-passenger amphibian built by Norsk
Flyindustri AS (q.v.), as the Finnmark 5A, intended
specifically for operation in the Northern and Arctic regions;
only one prototype was completed. The Honningstad Polar C5
bush-plane was built in 1948 by Wideroes Flyveselskap OG
Polarfly (q.v.)
KJELLER FLYFABRIKK
The Norwegian Army Aircraft Factory, located at Kjeller.
Built under license during the 1930s Fokker C.V and de
Havilland Gipsy Moth and Tiger Moth. Also did repair and
overhaul of military-aircraft equipment, and experimental
work.
MARINENS
FLYVEBATFABRIKK
Naval Flying-Boat Factory established at Horten in 1915 to
build aircraft for Royal Norwegian Navy, including early
Farman designs, Hansa Brandenburg W.33 twin-float fighter reconnaissance
aircraft and, during 1920s, a small number of Douglas DT-2B
and DT-2C torpedo carriers. Breda Ba 28 trainer seaplane
also built under license. Indigenous seaplanes included
M.F.8 biplane trainer, M.F.9 single-seat fighter, M.F.10
advanced trainer, and M.F.11 three-seat reconnaissance
aircraft
NORSK FLYINDUSTRI AS
Formed in 1947 to produce the Finnmark 5A amphibian designed
by Birger Honningstad (q.v.), which did not progress beyond
the prototype stage. Norsk also manufactured metal floats for
a variety of aircraft.
WIDERUES FLYVESELSKAP AS.
The oldest flying company in Norway, established in 1933 a
repair department for aircraft and engines.
In 1945 built the C.5
Polar monoplane, a five-seat general-purpose or
ambulance aircraft which took part in the Norwegian-
British-Swedish Antarctic expedition of 1951.
